Fairfield residents will be able to dispose of asbestos for free thanks to a collection service being offered by the Fairfield City Council.
The council will collect up to 10 square metres of unattached bonded asbestos from Monday 21 November to Friday 2 December 2016.
According to Council’s Facebook page, items that will be accepted include fibro sheeting from garages, bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and external walls, roofs, eaves and gables, guttering, vinyl tiles and backing.
Places are strictly limited and conditions apply. To register your interest you should contact 9725 0209 or environment@fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au before Friday 11 November 2016.
Keep in mind that asbestos is an extremely hazardous material and there are strict guidelines for how it needs to be handled and disposed of.
It is found in many older homes throughout Australia and can usually only be disposed of at designated locations.
It can be expansive to remove asbestos, so if you think you might have asbestos in your home then it’s a good idea to get in touch with the Council and take advantage of the service on offer.
Make sure you read up on asbestos guidelines for the safest methods of handling and removal.
