Become “Dutch for a Day” at Fairfield Museum and Gallery

How much do you know about the Dutch’s connection with Australia? Have you ever wondered why they didn’t claim our country when Dutchman Dirk Hartog landed here 400 years ago?

All of this and more will be unveiled at the Fairfield Museum and Gallery next month as part of their exhibition that has been aptly titled, ‘Why didn’t the Dutch claim Australia?’

The exhibition will run throughout October and will highlight the role Hartog played in exploring and recording the Western coastline of Australia.

To mark the opening of the new display, everyone is invited to the museum and gallery to celebrate all things Dutch at a special launch event. They will be holding ‘Dutch for a Day’ on Saturday 1 October from 1- 4pm.

This will be a FREE afternoon featuring Dutch food and delicacies, music, games and Dutch inspired children’s craft, and it’s not to be missed if you’re interested in Dutch culture and some of the lesser-known parts of Australia’s history.

The Fairfield City Museum and Gallery is located at 634 The Horsley Drive in Smithfield and to find out more about the event you can contact them on (02) 9725 0190.
